Appreciate this breakdown. I hope the mainstream media is punished for its role in aiding and abetting this genocide. at every single point where it could have been used to hold those in power to account, it has failed.

Could Media Lens also look at how Gaza is being addressed by the UK universities who teach journalism - how staff and students are able to include media response in the curriculum....

Good idea, Steve. Probably best undertaken by a media academic, such as Des Freedman. You could ask him.

Thanks David,

This is very clear and articulate. And it's so important. Often when I come across some "news" from the popular media, I find that I have a negative reaction. I feel quite strongly that what I see is wrong in many ways and also harmful. But it's not always clear. It is easy to disappear in a fog of angry confusion. How important it is to understand the meaning of a message given within a truthful context. Journalists should act in good faith towards their audience. (Why does that even need to be said?) And we the audience should act in good faith towards the journalists: that is, we should be critically literate and, if we can, trusting. Maybe that's just unrealistic.

Thank you very much for your kind comments, Julia. And your comments about having a negative reaction to the 'news' will strike a chord with many people. It's become ever more apparent to the public in recent times that the journalist's supposed commitment to the truth is too often eclipsed by the requirements of power and privilege; namely, deference to state and corporate interests.

Not just cowardly journalists, the political class’ pro Israeli positioning, people in the professions, entertainment, media etc have been weak too, afraid of raising their heads above the parapet because of the effective cancelling campaign and doxing of the Israeli Hasbara. Paying their mortgages has eroded their humanity.

Sorry if that sounded a bit too dismissive of people’s legitimate fear of UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) - it’s easy for me to say, I don’t have -

A: a career

B: a mortgage

They have created exactly what they wanted, a climate of fear - that is powerful Ju Ju no doubt.

Journalists though should have less of a get out clause.

And so, what is israel if not a colony therefore?

Of course they would: this is the essence of Judaism - they define, they frame, they undermine🤫
